Quitman, Georgia, the county seat of Brooks County, is lush with the soft beauty of heirloom camellias and overflowing with hometown hospitality. Surrounded by plantations and enjoyed by golfers, bird watchers, and sportsmen alike, Quitman also boasts the second-largest registered historic district in the state along with a quaint downtown complete with antique shops and charming family-owned eateries. The original courthouse, dating back to 1864, is still in use today. Brooks County is a place steeped in history with an unhurried lifestyle.

Located just north of the Georgia-Florida line in the heart of plantation country, Brooks County is easily accessed from Interstate 75, Interstate 10, and US Highway 84. The Quitman-Brooks County Museum & Cultural Center serves as a center for education and research with its large collection of local Civil War artifacts and an impressive set of genealogy records. Outside the museum is the Betty Sheffield Memorial Garden, which pays homage to the First Lady of Camellias. Brooks County is home to many other small communities such as Barney, Barwick, Dixie, Grooverville, Morven, Nankin, and Troupeville, each possessing its own unique qualities and heritage.
