Taste of Thomasville Food Tour

Taste of Thomasville Food Tour started in 2013 by Debra Smith with the help of Debbie Godbehere. Debra is a retired teacher and had done a food tour in Charleston, SC before she retired. After spending several months at home, she thought why couldn’t a food tour in Thomasville work. After researching how to do a food tour, she found a school in Chicago, Food Tour Pros, that teaches you how to do food tours. She and Debbie flew to Chicago and learned how to do food tours. The two came back and spent the next 4 months putting the tour together. March 24, 2013, was Taste of Thomasville’s first tour.

The tours were slow at first. Then the food editor of the Tallahassee Democrat heard about Taste of Thomasville and came on the tour. She wrote a two page article about the tour. Debra contributes that article to the launch of her business. In October, Taste of Thomasville had their 6500 guest. The first of November, Taste of Thomasville celebrated their 800th tour.

Last October, Taste of Thomasville was recognized as Top Five Food Tours in Georgia by Southern Living. This year at the Global Food Tour Conference, Taste of Thomasville made the top 3 food tours at the food tour, losing to Hong Kong Food Tours. This November at the Annual Thomasville Chamber of Commerce Impact Awards, Taste of Thomasville won Small Business of the Year.

Debra also contributes a huge part of her success to her wonderful guides. Debra feels that she has the best guides. She always says there is “No I in Team” and we work as a great team.
